The Oxford ELLT is designed to test candidates on the 4 core language skills – Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. Candidates start with either the reading or listening tests, before moving onto the writing and finishing with the speaking test. The Oxford ELLT Examiner who meets with the candidate in the speaking test will have also marked their written test. Due to the modularised structure of the test, candidates can decide how quickly they progress through the different components, giving them time to prepare in between. All components must be completed within 30 days.

Live with an Oxford ELLT Examiner
Students have 40 minutes to complete the reading test.
Students may end the test before the 40 minutes.
Students have 25minutes to complete the listening test.
All audio content has been created based on real world scenarios. Students may end the test before the 25 minutes.
The Oxford ELLT writing test, is assessed through a unique written task and submitted directly to the student’s examiner (the same one they will meet during the Oxford ELLT speaking test).

During the Oxford ELLT speaking test students meet with an examiner face-to-face over video call.
Failure to comply with any of the below will result in your test being disqualified.
Ensure you are always visible. Your head, face and shoulder always be visible in the camera preview.
Keep your ears visible and uncovered (where possible).
Make sure you are in a well-lit room - if we are unable to see you clearly, your test will not be accepted.
Always keep your microphone and camera on if you turn off either your microphone or camera, your test will be stopped.
You must complete all 360° Room Scans when instructed (Oxford ELLT Digital Only).
You must share your entire screen we must be able to see the tool bars at the top and bottom of the screen. If your screen share has been cut or tampered with, your test will not be accepted.
Do not look away from the screen.
No hats or face coverings that cover your ears.
Do not leave the web browser or testing window - if you open another tab or window your test will not be accepted.
You are only permitted to speak during your speaking test. You will not be required to speak during any other part of the test, if you speak to someone during your test, your test will not be accepted.
Do not allow others in the room with you if anyone enters the room. your test will not be accepted.
Failure to complete an adequate 360° Room Scan when instructed will result in your test not being accepted (Oxford ELLT Digital Only)
Do not use any other electronic devices düring your test, including mobile phones, tablets or Bluetooth headphones, if any additional or external devices are detected your test will not be accepted.
The ELLT reading test is scored out of a total of 32 with the listening test scored out of a total of 24 points. The ELLT speaking and writing tests are assess on a scale of 0 to 12 points across four criteria: Task Achievement, Accuracy and Appropriacy of Language, Fluency and Disclosure Management & Pronunciation/Grammar & Vocabulary. A candidate’s score is tallied, and an overall level is awarded based on an average of the four component levels.
